Mechanism

Safinamide is a highly selective and reversible monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor that increases dopamine levels; it also modulates glutamate release and sodium/calcium channels.

Adjunctive treatment to levodopa/carbidopa in patients with Parkinson's disease experiencing 'off' episodes.
