Mechanism

Pilocarpine is a cholinergic agonist that binds to muscarinic receptors on smooth muscles, causing pupillary constriction (miosis) to improve near visual acuity through the pinhole effect.

Approved Indication

Treatment of presbyopia in adults.

What This Means For Patients

Vuity (pilocarpine hydrochloride 1.25% ophthalmic solution) is a prescription eye drop designed to treat age-related blurry near vision (presbyopia). Once applied, it temporarily reduces pupil size to improve near and intermediate vision while maintaining distance focus. It is available under the special-import drug policy in the Hainan Boao Lecheng pilot zone.
