How Dongdan international care works
The Dongdan guide separates health assessment, endoscopy and dental care. For endoscopy, a gastroenterology consultation comes first; the clinician decides whether to order an examination. Inpatient admission requires a hospital-issued admission document and a subsequent admission notice. These are separate steps, so an enquiry should identify whether you need an outpatient opinion, an investigation or admission. [1]
Registration and arriving at Dongdan
The June 2024 guide describes real-name registration through the PUMCH app, using a passport or another valid identity document. Select the Dongdan international service when following the guide. The international department is beside the south side of the internal medicine building, near the hospital’s south gate at the Shuaifuyuan campus. Health assessment and understanding the results
The international guide describes outpatient and inpatient health assessments, with a clinician tailoring the examination and arranging interpretation or specialist follow-up. A different Health Medicine post-checkup clinic is described on the East Campus’s tenth floor: its published entry requirements include a checkup in that department within six months and referral by its examining doctor. Examinations and admission are separate appointments
For endoscopy, the guide starts with a gastroenterology visit and a doctor’s order, followed by payment and scheduling. Anaesthesia assessment is a separate step when required; obtain preparation instructions from the clinic. For admission, an admission document is followed by hospital notification. If using commercial insurance, the guide asks for the insurer’s payment guarantee before admission. [1]

The published pathway requires a gastroenterology consultation before an examination is ordered. Tell the team whether you already have a referral and whether sedation is being considered so it can explain the required visits. [1]
Does any PUMCH checkup qualify for the post-checkup clinic?
The Health Medicine notice sets department-specific conditions: its own checkup within six months and an examining doctor’s referral. Ask the international service which report-review route applies to your examination instead of assuming automatic access. [4]
Is an admission document a confirmed admission date?
The guide separates the admission document from the later admission notification. Wait for the hospital’s arrival instructions and, where relevant, completion of the insurance guarantee before finalizing the inpatient travel dates. [1]
